Owing an allegiance to
Ras-Al-Khaimah on the UAE's
north coast, this emirate, which
is situated on the eastern coast
of the Arabian Gulf, is dotted
with villages that are scattered
all over its land. It has unique
scenery and wild-life north
on-shore and off-shore. With
staggering landscapes and
littered with forts and
archaeological sites and
unexplored territories, Fujairah
bears charming and secretive
treasures that await its
tourists.
Lying in the south-eastern
corner of the Arabian peninsula,
Fujairah is the only emirate
located on the Gulf of Oman
rather than the Arabian Gulf.
Unlike other desert emirates,
Fujairah has the distinction of
being a narrow coastal strip at
the edge of its mountainous
terrain. This makes the emirates
naturally endowed with scenic
beauty. The important resort
area of Khor Fakkan has
excellent beaches and watersport
facilities.
The Hajar mountain range that
divides the U.A.E. in two, from
Ras Al Khaimah to Al Ain has
kept Fujairah separated from the
rest of the country. Fujairah's
main occupation in the past were
fishing and agriculture. Pearl
fishing was non-existent because
the waters of the Gulf of Oman
were much deeper and colder than
the Arabian Gulf, not suitable
for the growth of pearl oysters.
The Fujairah port is an
important port for container
liners and for the world's
largest livestock shipping
companies which have set up
their main holding station for
sheep and cattle for the entire
Arabian peninsula here.
The rustic and old-fashioned
look which Fujairah upholds is a
reflection on the city-life
there. They are proud of their
heritage and wish to share their
adventures with the rest of the
world.
